Shifting from "Traditional" to "Innovative" Learning

As technology continues to make astounding advancements, it becomes ever more prevalent within educational institutions. These advances have brought about new learning models and innovations that have been found very beneficial to educators' instructional practices and ultimately students' learning journey. Due to this, the way in which students learn has made a monumental shift from traditional learning to innovative learning.  Where there is a significant focus on creating a student-centered environment as opposed to the traditional teacher-led environment. For only this is when real-authentic learning takes place in the hands of the student themselves and the teachers act more as a “guide” in their learning journey. As education continues to grow and evolve, new learning models and innovations are here to stay. It seems to be the wave of the future as the traditional mundane methods have been proven less effective compared to new models. Schools are taking into account that students must be at the center of their education and in charge of their learning. Educators must be facilitators in their differentiated learning paths because not all students are at the same level at the same time. This is where educators use technology as a tool to support and enhance the learning experience and students use technology to research, synthesize and create.

Students tend to learn best when they are critical thinking, collaborating, and creating. The use of these technologies is adopted in order to create an engaging learning environment where students are immersed in their learning through the use of different forms of technology. Some examples of technologies are mobile learning, live streaming, augmented reality, and immersive classrooms to name a few. It is vital for these technologies to be integrated into modern-day classrooms because they will set students up for success in their educational journeys and even future careers. It is time for schools and colleges to move into a new educational era where technology is at the forefront providing innovative learning environments where all students can flourish in their own learning styles using multiple modalities. Technology has shifted the way students learn from a more traditional approach to education to a more student-centered, technology-driven form of instruction.
